There is no better place to live in the Baltimore metro area than Mount Vernon. Be in the middle of it all!  Check out our Directory for an extensive and growing list of neighborhood concert halls, theaters, museums, galleries, shops, grocers, services, churches, hotels, social clubs, bars, and institutions.  A list of restaurants, caterers, and other food-related establishments will appear here soon as well.

We are confident that no other neighborhood in the Baltimore area offers as much.  With easy access from I-83, the Charles Street Corridor, Penn Station, light rail, subway, MTA, and the free Circulator bus, Mount Vernon is one the easiest places to visit and get around in.  The neighborhood is also one of the most walkable neighborhoods in the entire country.

Mount Vernon, a national-, state-, and local historic district boasts Maryland’s largest collection of historic urban buildings.  Architecture and history buffs will be stunned by the country’s first cathedral (1806) designed by the renowned architect Benjamin Latrobe, the incredible Roman artifacts collection at the Walters, the country’s first monument to George Washington (1815), the original copy of the Star-spangled Banner housed at the Maryland Historical Society.  Visit the steps of the Maryland Institute College of Art (1836) on which Lincoln announced his candidacy to run for President, or the country’s first free library, a magnificent example of Art Deco design.

Attend symphonic, choral, pop, and operatic concerts at the Lyric, Baltimore Symphony and the Peabody Conservatory of Music which once played host to Tchaikovsky.  Take in award-winning theater productions at Centre Stage or one of several other live theaters in the neighborhood.

For casual and formal diners alike Mount Vernon offers hundreds of dining options.  Whether one has a taste for first-class steaks and seafood, haute cuisine, ethnic foods of every variety, tavern food, or simple home cooking, Mount Vernon is the place to eat out.  With 4 private social clubs and dozens of bars and clubs catering to every style, many offering live music, Mount Vernon also continues to be a premiere nightlife destination for the entire region.

Where else in Maryland can one find such a diversity of housing options?  Everything from full-service condos in modern high-rises and reasonably-priced, yet spacious, high-ceilinged apartments in 150-year-old Victorians row houses to grand single-family urban mansions with 10 bedrooms and dining rooms big enough to seat 24. These row house mansions are some the largest in the state, making the cost per square-foot very reasonable compared with nearly every other housing market in the entire Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area.

With so much to offer, why even consider living anywhere else?
